In the past few years terms such as "explore" or "exploreeverything" have become trendy in the photography scene. If you browse Instagram as much as I do you probably see them as hashtags on most of your favorite photographers posts. So whats the hype about? Why is walking around taking pictures of cityscapes, landscapes, and random people so popular?
Most photographers work with clients on projects they have little control over. Subject matter, mood, and theme are directed by the client, while the photographers job is to accurately capture it all. Every shoot is different and you will never be able to predict how a client with react to your final products. This creative process can sometimes be stressful. Actually, very stressful. So how does a photographer break through the stress and revamp the creative juices? They explore!
Walking around a new environment with a camera is a great feeling. No client, no expectations, no rules. Personally, this is my favorite type of photography. That all being said, Sebastian and I ended up with a free Saturday after one of our clients had to reschedule last minute. I called him up and asked if he had anything going on and we talked about a possible explore session. Normally we would meet up in D.C. in a unexplored neighborhood, but we were both looking for something new. Baltimore Maryland.
We started at the harbor where just about everyone goes when they visit Baltimore. It really is a nice place to walk around and learn about the history of the city. After doing the tourist thing we noticed a bridge that crossed over the main strip of the city. We ended up finding our way up to the bridge and decided to capture the landscape around us and doing a mini Parkour shoot.
After the bridge shots we wanted to focus on architecture and symmetrical buildings. This has been something that Sebastian has been shooting for a past few weeks and he wanted to see what Baltimore had to offer. Hope you enjoy the rest of the pictures and come back soon to check-in on our most recent adventures.
